Career Experience
Prior to joining a PhD program, I spent several years working as a research technician in cancer research labs. During my PhD research in orthopaedic surgery, my studies were focused in the area of arthritis, and this work led to a discovery of novel therapeutic agents, one of which was validated in a pre-clinical study as a therapy for local trauma-induced osteoarthritis and is currently in human clinical trials for treatment of knee osteoarthritis. During my career, I have published several first-author as well as co-author papers. My academic training and research experience have provided me with an excellent background in multiple biological disciplines as well as with professional experience in grant/manuscript writing. In my recent study, I have shown that genetic and pharmacological modulation of a specific molecular mechanism can regulate detrimental pro-inflammatory outcomes in injured/diseased joint and other tissues. This study led us to a discovery of a novel class of small molecules that control this underlying inflammatory mechanism. I am a co-inventor of this current class of small molecule compounds, all of which are IP-protected by the composition of matter claims.
