Java Alert

WINDOWS

To install Java, download the latest 32-bit (Offline) installer for Windows from the following page:

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual_java7.jsp

Save the file to your computer, then run the installer after it has finished downloading. Close and restart your web browser after completing the Java install.

Once Java has been installed, adjust the following setting in the Java Control Panel.

1. Close all web browsers.
2. Open the Java Control Panel : Tap the Windows key on your keyboard (between the Ctrl and Alt keys), then type "Java Control Panel" (without quotes) and hit Enter. The Java Control Panel window will open.
3. Select the "Security" tab.
4. Click the "Edit Site List…" button, under the Exception Site List heading.
5. Click the "Add" button in the Exception Site List window.
6. 1. Enter "http://learning.princetonreview.com" (without quotes).
   2. Enter "http://learning.princetonreview.com/dashboard/#" (without quotes).
7. Click the "Add" button again. The following prompt will appear: "Including an HTTP Location on the Exception Site List is considered a security risk"
8. Click "Continue".
9. If you are enrolled in a LiveOnline course, repeat steps 6 - 8, but this time add " https://na-downloads.elluminate.com " to the list.
10. Click "OK" to close the Exception Site List window.
11. Click "OK" to close the Java Control Panel.
12. Verify that all browser windows are closed, then restart your browser.

In most cases, no additional configuration will be necessary on Windows systems. However, if you are unable to find the "Exception Site List" on the Security tab in the Java Control Panel, it is likely that an earlier version of Java is still present on your system and interferring with the most recent version. To correct this:

1. Close all web browsers.
2. Tap the Windows key on your keyboard (between the Ctrl and Alt keys), then type "appwiz.cpl" (without quotes) and hit Enter. The "Programs and Features" (Uninstall a program) window will open.
3. For each version of Java listed in the Programs and Features window, right-click on the program name and select "Uninstall", then follow the on screen prompts to complete the removal of that version of Java. Repeat until there are no version of Java listed in the Programs and Features window.
4. Reinstall and configure the latest version of Java as described above.

MAC

MacOSX 10.6 is not compatible with the Princeton Review web site, as Java 7 is not available for this version of MacOSX. If you are using MacOSX 10.6, please consider upgrading to MacOSX 10.9 - which is available as a free download from Apple on the following page.

MacOSX 10.7.4 and higher:
All system software, security, and Java updates from Apple, as well as Java 7 from Oracle, must be installed. If you are using Safari, any updates for Safari should also be installed.

1. Close all windows, and quit out of any web browsers.
2. Open the Apple menu at the top left corner of your screen and select "Software Updates".
3. Once the application finishes checking for updates, click "Check Details" to view the individual updates which are available.
4. Select and install all available updates for the system software, any security updates, and any updates which specifically mention Java. If you are using Safari, install any available updates for Safari.
5. If prompted to restart your computer after installing updates, do so.
6. Repeat steps 2 - 5 until Software Updates reports that there are no available system software, security, or Java updates to install.
7. Go to www.java.com (external link) and install the latest version of Java 7. (Click the "Free Java Download" button on the main page, and follow the directions on the web site to complete the installation.)
8. Quit any open web browsers, then restart your browser. If using Safari, refer to the instructions below. Java will NOT work in Safari until the browser is configured to allow the Java browser plugin to load.

After Java 7 has been installed, adjust the following settings in the Java Control Panel.

1. Close all web browsers.
2. Open the Java Control Panel: Open the Apple menu and select "System Preferences". Double click the "Java" icon, found under the "Other" heading. 3. Select the "Security" tab.
3. Click the "Edit Site List…" button, under the Exception Site List heading.
4. Click the "Add" button in the Exception Site List window.
5. Enter "http://learning.princetonreview.com" (without quotes).
6. Enter "http://learning.princetonreview.com/dashboard/#" (without quotes).
7. Click the "Add" button again. The following prompt will appear: "Including an HTTP Location on the Exception Site List is considered a security risk"
8. Click "Continue".
9. If you are enrolled in a LiveOnline course, repeat steps 6 - 8, but this time add " https://na-downloads.elluminate.com " to the list.
10. Click "OK" to close the Exception Site List window.
11. Click "OK" to close the Java Control Panel.
12. Verify that all browser windows are closed, then restart your browser.

If you are using Safari, the following setting must be adjusted as well.

1. Open the "Safari" menu at the top of the screen and select "Preferences".
2. Select the "Security" tab in the Preferences window.
3. Click the "Manage Website Settings" button.
4. Select "Java" in the list on the left side of the Manage Website Settings window.
5. 1. If "learning.princetonreview.com" is already in the "Configured Websites" list, set "learning.princetonreview.com" to "Always Allow".
   2. If "learning.princetonreview.com" is NOT in the "Configured Websites" list, select the option for "When visiting other websites: Always Allow".
   3. If "learning.princetonreview.com/dashboard/#" is already in the "Configured Websites" list, set "learning.princetonreview.com" to "Always Allow".
   4. If "learning.princetonreview.com/dashboard/#" is NOT in the "Configured Websites" list, select the option for "When visiting other websites: Always Allow".
6. Click "Done" to close the Manage Website Settings window, then close the Preferences window.
7. Quit and restart Safari. There is currently no way to manually add "learning.princetonreview.com" to the Configured Websites list, which is why it may be necessary to select "Always Allow" for "other websites" at step 5. However, after you have successfully accessed a few of the online content pages on the Princeton Review web site, you should find that "learning.princetonreview.com" has been added to the Configured Websites list. If it has, you may go through the above steps again, configure only "learning.princetonreview.com" to "Always Allow", and configure "other websites" to the default "Ask".
