The initial screening of applicants selects those who have close ties to Hawaii and who are most likely to practice in Hawaii and in the U.S.-affiliated Pacific Islands.
Applicants from Wyoming and Montana, states without medical schools who are certified by the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE) Program are given consideration in the screening cut-off.
Requirements for application to JABSOM are:
-Completion of 90 semester credit hours which must include: 8 semester credit hours of Biology with Lab, 8 semester credit hours of General Physics with Lab, 8 semester credit hours of General Chemistry with Lab, 3 semester credit hours of Biochemistry (no lab required), and 3 semester credit hours of Cell and Molecular Biology (no lab required).
The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) must be taken within three years of the anticipated date of matriculation to medical school. The latest MCAT scores screened/rescreened in the application process are September of the year of application (May for Early Decision).
